WWDC: Vision Pro (Thoughts and Research)
Let's take a closer look at Vision Pro, from the event to the technical specifications, future, predictions, and research.
WWDC: Vision Pro
They made the presentation to people under the sun. Some were thankful to be in the shade. In addition, the event was not presented in the style of the past. You know very well what would have happened had Steve Jobs introduced the Vision Pro. He would try the product himself at that moment, just like on the iPhone. But with this "one more thing" this has not been tried. Maybe the product had issues and they ignored it. They didn't take that risk. Maybe they were afraid of anything resembling Mark's cringe footage like in Meta Quest. For some unknown reason, Tim Cook was next to the screen like an older-generation teacher using only PowerPoint. He stood in the corner of the screen and people watched the video. Apple's legendary presentations were not like this at all. I think they tried to get over the situation with a guitar solo.
3499$
They brought the product out at a high price. This is a pretty high price for all countries. So what was the reason for this? It has to do with Apple's style. Apple has always done top-notch work. He recorded works not in the entertainment sector but in the business sector. That's why Windows is more game-friendly while Mac is more professional.
They added PRO to the end of the name to emphasize that the product appeals to the professional audience. It wasn't iVision. Vision Pro.
We can understand that they tend to the professional audience by not sharing any games during the presentation. Their opponents have always been game-oriented. Although Facebook's strategy is to reach the whole world, Apple's is not.
We can understand that Apple wants a new iPhone. They want a new iPhone. They want a new branch of sales. Vision Pro seems to be the best for this. They couldn't catch it in hours. Even though I don't have a smartwatch, I do have a smartphone. This did not happen in hours. But is it enough for them to reach a professional audience to realize this desire? The answer is no. Because not everyone in the world is a professional.
I think they wanted to cover their expenses first. And they wanted to measure sales despite such a high price. A strategy can be created accordingly. Think about it, if something sold at a higher price were published at a lower price, wouldn't you want to buy it? The majority can believe it. We've seen this with Meta Quest launching expensive and then cheaper products.
Rationalization
Although it targeted the professional audience, it also tried to influence the general audience. He proves this by posting a video of the Disney character Mickey Mouse during the presentation, or by declaring "the best computer and television you can buy right now".
We address the upper segment, but we do not forget the lower segment, I think.
This Could Be a Fiasco
Before Vision Pro was introduced, the sales expectation was thought to be 3 million. Later, this number is estimated to decrease to 900 thousand first and 150 thousand after WWDC.
This could be a fiasco because dropping it from 3 million to 150 thousand little by little is not something a well-established company like Apple can do. In addition, some users voice their problems. Some do not fit in their heads, and some say that they still weigh their head. As you know, these are the biggest problems of virtual reality glasses. Let them innovate as much as they want, but they will not be able to make progress without solving these problems!
Basic Issues
- The smallest major issue is battery life. They show it as 2 hours. 2 hours is pretty low. iPhone is louder, which increases usage.
- Although virtual reality glasses only look like glasses, they have 2 separate apparatus. consoles. Separately for right hand and left hand. Glasses + right-hand console + left-hand console. It isn't easy to keep track of all their charges. But Apple has taken steps to solve this without the console. You can control the glasses with your hand, eye, and voice. But we'll see how healthy it is.
- The biggest problem! Dizziness and vomiting. This is very common in some people. During use, it disconnects from reality and creates a feeling of vomiting. Maybe he will use augmented reality to overcome them. We'll talk about this in detail shortly. I tried augmented reality glasses in a hackathon and virtual reality glasses in a cafe focused on virtual reality glasses. I did not experience any vomiting or dizziness. Everything feels artificial just because you're back in real life. For example, I think I can pass my hand through the car, but I can't. :) So you can confuse the real with the virtual. Some of them had psychological problems because of this. This will be the biggest test for Apple.
If I were Apple and glasses were heavy, I'd brainstorm things like lying down.
Mixed Reality
We see the fundamental problems as mixed reality solutions. When someone approaches you, you can see them on the screen. In this way, you do not break your connection with real life. It reflects your eyes on the glasses in order not to break the bond not only with the user but also with the friends of the user. I thought it was transparent at first, but it wasn't. There's a screen there and it projects your eyes there. This situation could encounter an image from Black Mirror. While some people find it creepy, it doesn't seem to have had any effect on people like me.
Can it Create a Fashion Trend?
We are now surrounded by wearable technologies. We have seen that the cases of smartphones such as the iPhone are compatible with fashion. I wonder if this happens with glasses too? In the meantime, while I was writing this article, another idea came to my mind. Can the glasses' cordon/case be removed like watches? It can be made and sold in different colors and patterns. A brand new source of income can be obtained. Or stickers can be produced only for glasses. Only for them.
I know, I have a lot of ideas. That's why I developed this product. I'm selling you ideas that come to my mind. :) But I realized that these ideas are very valuable and I will reduce them from 500x500 ideas to 100x100 ideas. Before writing this text, a new app idea came to my mind, but I will add it to the paid version again. I think they're all ideas that would make a lot of money if done. 5000 Patents
Apple has received 5000 patents for the Vision Pro. Some are just ideas that haven't really been done, but some are quite interesting. For example, you focus on where you are looking. At that time, they were preparing in advance the operations that could happen in the glasses with the place you were looking at. An interesting thought.
Or, as I mentioned in my paid info product, they have patents on being able to work in integration with other things. For example, measuring your focus by looking at your heart rate, etc. And improving the experience accordingly. Here's what I understand. This is how they can solve the nausea. There are certain patterns in nausea. For example, if the user often puts his hands on his head, such as the pattern. If this is repeated, it can turn the unrealistic image in the glasses into a background that transfers to the room of your house, that is, to the place you are in. This is one of the things that can reduce the feeling of vomiting.
If these ideas didn't come to Apple's mind, "hire me Apple. I can find you lots of ideas you might not hear!" :) Let's at least try our luck. If one of you buys this product and actually gets to Apple, I owe him a nice dinner. If Apple hires me, of course. :) Because I don't live in America and 1 dollar is 23.67 TL here. ':)
Happy Ending
